1. Free Coaching for BPL Students for Entrance Examinations

It is ascertained that the students of the economically weaker section of our State are faring badly at the national level entrance examinations. In the present scenario only those students who are undergoing specialized entrance coaching by private agencies, which charge heavy fees secure high ranks in these examinations. This prompted the Centre to prepare a proposal for providing free training for national level entrance examinations to economically weaker students. The Proposal was submitted to the Government and State Planning Board. The Planning Board has approved the proposal ‘in- Principle’. The Centre proposes to offer free training to those students who are economically weaker but do not get adequate opportunities for appearing in the entrance examinations at the national level. The programme is targeted on the students from economically weaker sections of the society and those undergoing their regular qualifying examination. +2 course for the examinations for admission on Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy, Law etc; and final year graduation for the examinations to IIMS, and PG programmes.

Identified resource group, trained in a common platform, will carry out the training in the 14 districts, through the selected Sub-Centres of Centre for Continuing Education Kerala.
The training is proposed to be of 10 months duration, which will be conducted along with their regular course of study. The classes will be conducted on weekends during their academic period and as full time exclusive programme during their vacation. The total duration is worked out to be of 300 hour.

As a pilot strategy, during 2006-07 this Centre has started free coaching to 75 BPL students. 18 students from BPL families undergone the free coaching for entrance examinations 2008. Due to paucity of funds, the Centre could not extent the programme to other districts.
